Robinson goes past 118mph to go quickest in Senior MGP class
Michael Dunlop once again topped the timings in the Classic Superbike class during Tuesday's second Manx Grand Prix qualifying session.
The Ballymoney man became the first man of this year's races to surpass the 124mph mark with Dean Harrison and David Johnson making up the top three quickest machines in the category.
Elsewhere, there was change at the top of the Senior MGP timings with Tom Robinson going fastest at just over 118mph with the second and third quickest times of the night going to Samuel Mousley and Daniel Ingham respectively.
Having set the best pace during the opening qualifying on Sunday (20 August) Dunlop's Team Classic Suzuki machine was clearly on-song again on Tuesday evening as he managed to become the first rider of this year's races to surpass 124mph from a standing start, clocking 124.34mph from a standing start on the only lap he carried out.
Meanwhile, behind him Dean Harrison came within touching distance of the 124mph mark managing 123.996mph on his second and flying lap of the session to go second quickest on the Key Racing Ducati just over three seconds off the pace of Dunlop - slotting in at third was David Johnson just 1.465 seconds further back (123.83mph).
Defending Classic Superbike champion, Rob Hodson, was also another to improve - after finishing fifth fastest two days ago, he moved up to fourth in last night's second outing at 123.562mph.
Elsewhere, after a close three-way tussle at the top of the Senior MGP standings after day one, a closely-fought contest followed again yesterday with change at the top of the leaderboard.
With the top three from Tuesday all completing a flying lap, Tom Robinson went fastest at 118.059mph - the first Senior MGP machine this year to go past 118mph.
But once again, there was plenty of company for the frontrunner, as Samuel Mousley went second quickest on lap two at 117.906mph, just 1.496 seconds off the benchmark set by Robinson.
Daniel Ingham then slotted in just 3.562 seconds back on Mousley at third - the fastest Senior MGP man on day one, Jamie Williams, went fourth quickest from a standing start on his only lap at 117.469mph.
Whilst the Junior MGP, Lightweight MGP and Classic Senior machines did commence at 7.15pm, the session was halted due to a red flag shortly after 7.30pm with the remainder of the session subsequently cancelled.
There will be two MGP qualifying sessions tomorrow (23 August) the first will be in the afternoon with roads around the course closing at 12.30pm and reopening no later than 4.30pm.
Roads will then close again at 6pm for an evening session before reopening once more no later than 9pm.
