The hosts seemed dead and buried when they trailed Liverpool 3-0 at half-time.
However, a stirring comeback secured an unlikely 5-3 success.
Nick Hurt reduced the arrears from the penalty spot before Chris Bass junior and Ciaran McNulty brought the Island level.
The sending-off of the Liverpool goalkeeper helped the Island gain further impetus and with extra-time looming, two injury time goals in as many minutes from Bass and Callum Morrisey won the tie before a big home crowd.
