A Kirk Michael businessman has announced his intention to stand for the constituency of Michael in the House of Keys general election in September.
Thirty-eight-year-old Paul Heavey, who lives in the village, is the managing director of Island Taxis Limited, a firm he set up in 1996.
Mr Heavey has lived in Kirk Michael all his life and was educated locally at Michael Primary School and Queen Elizabeth II High School in Peel.
The son of Walter and Rita Heavey (formerly Brew) of Mull View, Kirk Michael, he has been married to his wife Lynne for the past eight years.
Mr Heavey says he has taken a keen interest in local affairs for a long time and sees it as the end of an era, with current MHK David Cannan standing down after representing the area for 29 years.
He says he wants to ensure that the people of Michael continue to receive the dedication given by Mr Cannan, and believes fresh ideas can overcome the difficulties experienced in the past.
