Lewis Moran nets late winner for new club at The Bowl
Ayre United have clinched the 2024 Eric Fletcher Charity Shield after a late 2-1 win over Rushen United at The Bowl last night (16 August).
Premier league champions Ayre were ahead on 12 minutes courtesy of a Shaun Kelly from a Chris Duggan corner.
2024 FA Cup winners Rushen were level exactly 20 minutes later though as a slick team move was finished off with a composed sweeping finish from Danny Lane.
The northerners then grabbed a dramatic late winner with four minutes left as new signing Lewis Moran poked home from close-range after a goalmouth scramble from a corner.
The goal was initially disallowed before that decision was overturned by referee Ollie Johnson.
Meanwhile, the 2024/25 Isle of Man football season proper is due to get underway on Saturday, 31 August.
On that opening day, Ayre United will begin the defence of their top-flight title at home against Laxey.
Rushen United will start their latest premier league campaign with an away trip to newly-promoted Foxdale.
