Football: Corinthians hammer Ayre United to reach Hospital Cup last four

Foxdale and St Mary's play out 14-goal premier league thriller

Corinthians have progressed the last four of this year's Manx Quality Sheds Hospital Cup after a commanding 8-1 win over Ayre United in today's Isle of Man football fixtures.

The Douglas-based side will now face Division 2 side, St George's in the semi-finals with the winner of that contest set to face Onchan in the final itself.

'The O's' booked their place in this year's final showdown today in the one semi-final tie being played with a narrow 1-0 extra-time away victory at Rushen United.

In the Canada Life Men's Premier League, Foxdale and St Mary's put on a spectacle with a staggering 7-7 draw at Billy Goat Park whilst league champions, Peel were beaten at home by Laxey.

Elsewhere, in Ardern & Druggan Ltd. Division 2, Castletown claimed an important win over promotion rivals, Marown whilst the two other sides still in the mix to go up - Pulrose United and Ramsey Youth Centre & Old Boys (Rycob.) - also took wins, with Pulrose United earning a sizeable win over Division 2 champions, Colby who were presented with the league trophy today.

The Manx football action continues tomorrow (10 May) with the semi-finals of the Ascot Hotel Junior Cup and a triple-header in the Masters league.
