Two quick-fire goals help northerners to glory

Two quick-fire second-half goals helped Ramsey to a 2-1 win over Laxey to lift the 2024 Hospital Cup.

In a cagey first half it was defending champions Laxey who struck first as Brody Patience struck from the penalty spot on the stroke of half-time after Joe Walters had been brought down in the Ramsey penalty area.

The northerners then struck back early in the second period finding the net twice in the space of around 30 seconds.

Firstly Oliver Grice on 55 minutes managing to slot home after a goalmouth scramble from a Charlie Higgins free-kick before Higgins himself converted a tap-in to turn the game on its head.

With 13 minutes left, Laxey's job to get back into the contest got tougher as Walters was given his marching orders after receiving a second yellow card with George Burrows being sin-binned moments later.

Heading towards second-half stoppage time, Laxey then found themselves down to eight as Jordan Cooper also saw red.

Along with going to secure the Hospital Cup, Ramsey also finished third in the 2023/24 Canada Life Men's Premier League season whilst Laxey finished fifth.
