Manx Missile took three stage wins there during his career

A French city will temporarily rename itself in honour of Sir Mark Cavendish during this year's Tour de France.

Châteauroux will be renamed 'Cavendish City' for one day on Saturday, 13 July when the ninth stage of this year's race finishes in the region.

The 'Manx Missile' claimed three stage wins on the tour in the town during his racing career on his way to reaching a historic total of 35 stage wins last year before announcing his retirement from the sport later in 2024.

In a post on X, Mayor of Châteauroux, Gil Avérous, posted a recent update showing a road sign sporting the words 'Cavendish City' under the town's formal name, adding "3 stage victories in the #TourDeFrance at Châteauroux… That deserves a nod."
