The Chairman of the Isle of Wight Island Games Organising Committee is reassuring people next year's gathering will take place.
David Ball says a BBC South television report claiming the competition was in danger of being cancelled, due to a lack of funds, "exaggerated" the situation.
The Isle of Wight Council is having to make £25 million worth of spending cuts over the next two years.
However, it is holding a further £350,000 for organisers to stage the Games - a local government spokesman told the BBC they needed assurances the event would take place before funds would be made available.
