Five cups in a row
St George’s lifted the Hospital Cup for a fifth successive time as they beat St Mary’s in a match that went all the way to penalties.
Geordies had a 2-0 lead heading into the closing stages of the regulation 90 minutes, through a spectacular strike from Jay Skelcher-Maxwell and a Chris Bass junior effort.
Mary’s halved the deficit when Darren Hudgeon scored from the spot, before the former St George’s man forced the game into extra time when he headed in an equaliser late on.
There were no more goals in the additional half-an-hour, though, and it was St George’s who held their nerve as the match went to penalties to claim victory.
