Hockey: IoM Ladies B team bound for cup final this weekend

Manx team heading to London aiming to win EH Tier 3 Plate

One of the Isle of Man's national hockey teams will be getting a shot at potential England Hockey Championship glory this coming weekend.

The Isle of Man Ladies B squad will face Sunbury & Walton Hawks 1st XI in the final of the EH Women's Tier 3 Plate competition at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre in London on Bank Holiday Monday, 5 May.

It follows a run of four straight victories in the competition throughout the season - including one walkover - since dropping down from the EH Tier 3 KO Championship back in October last year.

Should the Manx side be successful, it would mean silverware in only the second season for the 'B' squad which was formed during the 23/24 campaign.

Their run in the EH Championship structure began on 26 October, 2024 with a 2-0 defeat at Liverpool Sefton 2nd XI in the EH Tier 3 KO Championship.

As a result, the Isle of Man dropped down into the EH Tier 3 Plate and progressed automatically in December 2024 when they were awarded a home walkover against Sheffield 2nd XI.

The next stage in February this year saw the Isle of Man side hold a rare home EH Championship fixture where they swept to an 8-1 victory over Northallerton 1st XI at the NSC in Douglas.

On 9 March the Island team then faced an away trip to Newcastle 2nd XI and managed to emerge with a narrow 3-2 win.

Last month on 13 April the Manx squad then sealed their place in this weekend's final with a 3-1 victory over Loughborough Students 5th XI at St Edward's College in Liverpool.

Push-back for Monday's match will be at 12.30pm.
