Jorgen Pettersson says time in role 'defined by joy and fulfillment'
The Chairman of the International Island Games Association (IIGA) has stepped down from his post.
Jorgen Pettersson has tendered his resignation due to his recent election as Speaker of the Parliament of Aland.
Taking up the position of acting chair will be IIGA Vice Chair Andrew Inskter from Shetland as of today (1 May).
Speaking on his move, Mr Pettersson says he's served on the executive committee for 'a considerable time' whilst 'cherishing every moment and every games.'
Having been chair since 2007, he adds ' while at times difficult and complex, the journey has been defined by joy and fulfillment.'
Meanwhile, Mr Inkster - who will be acting chair until a permanent appointment is made - is paying tribute to his predecessor's 'contribution to the IIGA over many years'.
Separately, the games committee met from 18-21 April to discuss the Faroe Islands' bid to host the 2027 games.
A final decision on that, as well as a potential verdict on the Isle of Man's bid to hold the 2029 event, will be made by member Islands at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Orkney in July.
