Event was due to take place in Guernsey next summer
The International Island Games 2021, due to take place in Guernsey, have been cancelled.
Small islands across the world were due to take part in the sporting event, between 3 and 9 July next year.
Before the cancellation, 3,500 competitors and officials, and 1,000 volunteers were set to be involved.
Games Chairman Jorgan Pettersson said, in light of the pandemic, 'it would not be fair to ask the member islands or the host island to commit financially to an event next summer.'
The event occurs every two years, with the next, in 2023, set to be hosted by Orkney.
