Cronkbourne win high-scoring game
There was plenty of explosive batting yesterday when Cronkbourne beat Valkyres in the Cain T20.
Batting first the Tromode side made 176 for 7 with Nathan Knights celebrating his call up to the Island National Squad by hammering 61 from 46 balls.
When he was bowled by Abdul Khan, the score stood at 101 for 6 and the match was in the balance.
Then Sam Kebbell took control by blasting 52 from only 19 balls - this contained just one four, but no fewer than five sixes.
Amongst the carnage, Mohammed Salman kept calm and had the excellent figures of 3 -13 from his four overs.
In reply Valkyres quickly lost two wickets, but Shahid Rafique (39) and Chris Langford (21) began to repair the damage.
However, Langford was trapped by Stuart Mellors and Rafique fell to Ben Johnston who then took three more wickets.
Valkyres finished on 140 for 7 to lose by 36 runs.
Peel and St John’s made a good start to their Cain T20 against Ramsey.
Russell Miller and Ollie Webster had an opening stand of 82 before Miller was bowled by Dom Howard for 49.
The total was 107 for one when Charlie Whittaker came on - in a shattering four over spell he took five wickets for 24.
Thanks to him, instead of reaching a mammoth total, the Saints were pinned back to 154 for 7.
However, the champions roared back in style with some devastating bowling.
Ramsey had no answer to the power of the Island’s opening attack of Dan Hawke and Akkie van den Berg.
They both took three wickets to reduce the northern club to 17 for 6.
Nick White and Kieran Cawte then mopped up the tail to give the Saints victory by 117 runs.
