Loundes takes Syd Quirk event

Kevin Loundes of Manx Harriers recorded the fourth fastest time ever in the Haldane Fisher sponsored Syd Quirk Half Marathon yesterday.

He led from the start and finished in 71 minutes 16 seconds, a personal best, ahead of clubmate Nigel Armstrong, with Christian Varley third, who also set PBs.

There was a brilliant performance from Rachael Tewkesbury in the ladies.

She beat fellow Manx Harrier Gail Griffiths on her way to recording a PB of 88 minutes 45 seconds in only her second race at the distance - well inside the Island Games guideline time.

Third lady finisher was Nikki Boyd of Northern AC.

The event, which also incorporated the Isle of Man Half Marathon Championships, was organised by the Isle of Man Veterans Athletics Club and attracted 77 runners.

The walking event was won by Parish Walk winner Jock Waddington of the host club with Chris Cale and Andy Green, both of Manx Harriers, in second and third places repectively.

Fourth overall and first lady finisher was Marie Jackson, with Lisa Motley second and Margi Killey third.
