Manxies considered for road world championships

Squad will be whittled down for Norway

Five Manx cyclists have been named in Team Great Britain's long list of riders for the upcoming Road World Championships in Norway.

Mark Cavendish, who won the world title in 2011 and the silver medal in 2016, is included, despite hinting recently he may not be fit enough to compete at the event.

The 32 year-old is currently riding for Team Dimension Data as they chase a third consecutive Tour of Britain title – his first action since he broke his shoulder blade in the Tour de France in early July.

The other Manxmen in the elite men long squad are Mark Christian and Peter Kennaugh – there are nine riders in the road race team and two in the time trial.

Anna Christian has been named in the elite women squad (there are seven riders in the road race and two in the time trial).

Matt Bostock has been selected for the under 23 men’s category.
