Manx athlete in GB squad for trip to South Korea next month

Isle of Man taekwondo fighter, Nino Ontoy is set to compete in this year's World Taekwondo Poomsae Chamionships.

The Manx-based competitor is one of 34 athletes who'll form the Great Britain squad for the championships taking place in Chuncheon, South Korea from 16-20 September this year.

He'll be taking on the U30 Pairs competition alongside Olivia McGeoch as well as the U30 Male Team event with Zaw Torley and Oluwatimllehin Akinrele.

Back in 2024, Ontoy became the first Briton to earn an individual medal at the event when it was held that year in Hong Kong, earning bronze in the U30 category.

In a post on social media, his family say they are 'overflowing with pride' at the athlete's selection, adding 'from the early days of training to the sacrifices, long hours, challenges, and determination that have shaped your journey—every moment has led you here.'

Announcing the squad, British Taekwondo says: "Having impressed in Estonia in 2025 with a record-breaking number of medals at a European Championships, we wish our team the best of luck in South Korea in September as teams travel from all across the world to take part in a massive celebration of Poomsae in the birthplace of Taekwondo."
