He topped the leaderboard with 141 after 36 holes at Mount Murray.
Paul Lowey netted 142 while defending champion Jon Corke also progressed to Tuesday’s last-16 knockout stage, as did first-time qualifiers Marcus Avery, Tom Harris, Donald Beggs and Gary Corlett.
