Musgrove leads way again

There was lovely weather at Greeba for this week’s shoot, but again numbers depleted by holidays and also the lure of the Festival of Jurby.

The National round of the day was a Bristol 1 comprising 72 arrows at 80 yards, followed by 48 arrows at 60 yards and finally 24 arrows at 50 yards, all on the large 120 cm target face and using five-zone scoring, ie 9 (which is a gold),7,5,3 and 1 point.

As last week Simon Musgrove led the way in the gents compound competition putting in an excellent score of 1222, with Dave Moore in second place on 1170.

Peter Mumford was third with 1147, having had a very expensive miss (in both points and monetary value), resulting in his arrow being damaged beyond repair. 

The other compound archer shooting on Sunday was Colin Moore, who retired at the end of the first distance.

Only three recurve archers shot, but with Tony Hartley leaving at the end of the morning session, the recurve competition was won outright by junior archer Adam Wright with an overall score of 868 points.

Danny Cowin also shot for the full day but he elected to shoot a Bristol 2 round, which is the same number of arrows but over shorter distances.

He scored 845.

In the afternoon session two junior archers shot the shorter Junior National round for their respective age group.

Josh Trafford finished on a score of 325 and Jack Tyrer scored 356 – a good effort by both and their scores will increase considerably once they reduce the number of misses.

Scores will be verified and PBs confirmed by the Records Officer on her return from holiday.

Officials are hoping with everything settling down after the summer holidays, there should be a good turnout for the annual Windsor competition this coming Sunday.

This is only a  nine dozen-arrow competition so all archers who wish to shoot should meet at Greeba at 9.30 am for the field set-up.

There will be no separate afternoon session.
