Vikings beaten at home
Defending champions Southern Nomads lost 22-14 to Douglas B in the opening game of their Manx Trophy title defence.
Douglas raced into a 17-0 lead following tries from Akki van den Berg, Conor McCaughen and Tom Chamberlain, plus a conversion from skipper Mark Shortland.
Nomads fought back in the second half with tries from Connor Stephens and Jack Emmerson, both converted by Mark Young.
However, van den Berg went in for his second of the game to close the match out for Douglas.
In the opening game of the Shimmin Wilson Manx Bowl, Western Vikings went down 12-10 at home in a close battle with Emerging Nomads.
Josh Samuels picked up two tries for Nomads with Ryan Preston’s conversion the difference between the teams.
The result will be a big boost for Nomads who were led by stand-in skipper John Walster, filling in for the injured Dion Meechan.
