Davey Todd claims Superbike win on first day of racing on Triangle circuit

Michael Dunlop claimed victory in two out of the three opening races at this year's North West 200 last night (8 May).

The Ballymoney man's wins in both the Supersport and Superstock classes marked the first time he's stood on the top step at the meeting since 2016 and spoke with BBC Sport Northern Ireland after his second win:

Meanwhile, Davey Todd secured his first Superbike win at the Triangle circuit in the opening Superbike race, holding off the advances of Dean Harrison and Peter Hickman.

There was an emotional moment separately in the Superstock contest as 16-time TT winner Ian Hutchinson finished third to take a podium - he spoke to BBC Sport Northern Ireland:

During a hotly-contested Superbike race Todd did enough to hold off Harrison who finished just 0.215 seconds behind to take second with Hickman a further 1.4 seconds back completing the top three.

Equally fiercely fought was the following Supersport race with less than a second separating eventual winner Dunlop from second-placed Richard Cooper and Todd on the Milenco by Padgett's Motorcycles Honda in third.

Furthermore, Dunlop - who'd recovered from a crash in qualifying earlier in the day to race on Thursday evening - wrapped up the Superstock race nearly three seconds clear of Harrison in second whilst Hutchinson finished just under six seconds further back to round out the podium.

Racing at the 2025 North West 200 continues tomorrow (10 May) with six races scheduled to take place and roads around the Triangle circuit closing from 9am until no later than 7pm.

The first event - the four-lap Supertwin race - is due to start proceedings at approximately 10am - all timings remain subject to change.
