Opening TT practice session cancelled

Poor conditions put paid to first qualifying session

The first qualifying session of TT 2019 has been cancelled due low cloud and mist around the Mountain Course.

It means the poor conditions have put paid to any action on the opening day of the festival.

There was due to be a speed-controlled lap for the newcomers, as well as Lightweight, Supersport and a sidecar practice session.

Clerk of the Course Gary Thompson announced the decision shortly before 3.30pm this afternoon.

The decision means the roads around the course will remain open this evening.

An additional qualifying session is now set to take place on Sunday, with roads around the course closing at 11.45am.

The first bikes will get away from the TT Grandstand at 1.30pm, with roads re-opening no later than 6.30pm.

Revised schedule:

11.45: Mountain closes Barrule Park Ramsey to Bungalow
12.00: Mountain closes Bungalow to Creg-Ny-Baa
13.00: All roads closed
13.30: Solo Newcomers’ speed controlled lap
13.35: Sidecar Newcomers' speed controlled lap
13.50: Start Supersport / Lightweight Practice
17.30: Roads open except Mountain section
18.30: All roads open
