Wignall winner edges Jersey 3-2
The Isle of Man senior women’s football team got their Inter-Island Games football tournament campaign off to a winning start yesterday.
They beat Jersey 3-2 in Ynys Mon, with a superb strike from Sarah Wignall turning out to be the winner.
Eleanor Gawne had given the Manx side the lead in the opening 20 minutes, but the Channel Island restored parity before the interval.
Becky Abbott then put the Isle of Man back into the lead, and Wignall’s effort ensured it was the perfect start to the tournament.
Their second fixture is this evening, against Gibraltar at 6pm.
The men’s side kick-off their tournament, meanwhile, with a match against Norwegian island Hitra at 6.30pm this evening.
