Ramsey suffer third straight home defeat
With rock bottom Vagabonds somewhat on the back foot this season, sixth placed Orrell were always going to be difficult to beat and the Wigan side lived up to expectations.
Their 74-0 demolition at Ballafletcher in South Lancashire/Cheshire Division Two included 12 tries.
Vagas play Wigan next week and, with only two wins from seven outings themselves, they will fancy their chances for the first points of the season, depending on the strength of the travelling squad.
Ramsey lost to in-form Birchfield in South Lancashire/Cheshire Division Three (South) going down 34-17 at the former Mooragh fortress.
A hat-trick from Birchfield scrum half Ste McDermott gave Birchfield an early 17-0 lead before tries from Harri Radford and Dale Radcliffe got Ramsey back into the game.
Carl Glover and Aston Giles both crossed for Birchfield tries in the second half, and when Daniel Bonwick pulled one back for Ramsey, the Birchfield lead was 29-17.
With Ramsey chasing a try bonus point, Birchfield capitalised and Carl Ashton’s late try finished off the Ramsey resistance.
