Nineteen year-old Harriet Pryke from Laxey struck gold at the North of England Indoor Athletics Championship in Sheffield on Saturday.
Competing in her first race of the season and also in her first race in the senior age group (having gone up from the under 20 group last season), she won her heat of the senior ladies 400 metres in a new indoor personal best of 58.69.
That ensured she qualified for the final as the fastest competitor.
She then won with a decisive victory in a time of 58.87 over nearest rival Nisha Desai of Trafford AC.
Harriet, a sports science student at Brunel University, will next be in action in both the 200m and 400m at the London Games at Lee Valley Athletics Centre in North London in a fortnight’s time.
