Ramsey suffer home defeat

Ramsey’s first home match of the 2012/13 season ended in disappointment when they went down 20-16 to a very gritty Southport in South Lancashire/Cheshire Division Two.

The red and blacks took an early lead from a Fintan Cummins penalty but Southport took charge of the rest of the first half with tries from Jake McMullen and Henry Brain, with McMullen also kicking both conversions and a penalty.

Cummins pulled another penalty back for Ramsey to leave it 17-6 at the break.

In the second half, Ramsey hit back with a James Wren try and a penalty and conversion from Cummins.

This brought them to within a point but a late McMullen penalty kept Southport clear.

Vagabonds picked up a bonus point win away at Buxton, beating their hosts 32-18.

Vagas led 15-0 at half-time with tries from Sam Brennan, Sam Liver and Tom Gascoyne.

They added another three in the second half with Brennan crossing for his second and one apiece for Ross McCulloch and Ross Pullman.

Aiden O’Shea kicked one conversion to round off the scoring.

Douglas won away at Moore for the first time in four seasons giving their hosts a 43-0 drubbing.

Andy Evans, Craig McGee and Niall Killey put Douglas into a comfortable half-time lead.

Second half tries came from Killey and Evans, plus one from wing Nick Hortshuis. Bryn Snellgrove chipped in with a penalty and five conversions.
