800-metre runner grabs additional Commonwealth spot
Athlete Joe Reid has been called into the Isle of Man team for the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast in Australia.
The 800-metre runner was a surprise absentee from the 32-man squad announced earlier this month.
But Reid has been called up after an extra place was awarded, granted after other countries failed to take up their full quota of athletes.
He recently set a new indoor Isle of Man record (1.51.39) at the Vienna indoor gala athletics meeting.
The team flies to Australia on March 19, followed by a week of acclimatisation in the Sunshine Coast before moving to the athletes’ village in Gold Coast.
