Rugby: Another big home win for Douglas

Vagabonds' barren run continues at Fleetwood

Report by Dave Christian:

Douglas’ home form continued in Regional 2 North West with a 37-14 win against Altrincham Kersal and a try bonus point to boot.

Bryn Snellgrove kicked an early penalty to steady the nerves; he then converted a Sam McCord try to extend the lead and a second penalty around the half hour saw proper daylight between the sides with Douglas 13-0 ahead.

Craig McGee crossed just before half time and the almost inevitable Snellgrove conversion left Douglas 20-0 in front at the break.

Less than two minutes into the second half Harry Hewson worked his magic to score from close range with Snellgrove on target again.

The Douglas kicking machine then added a further penalty to make it 30-0 with Douglas cruising.

Kersal then came late to the party and two Chris Roddy tries both converted by Patrick Roberts gave Douglas a little wobble until prop Simon Hoddinott crashed over at the end to kill off the revival and secure the try bonus point.

It goes without saying that Snellgrove added the conversion.

Vagabonds suffer at Fleetwood

Vagabonds crashed to a 64-5 defeat at high flying Fleetwood in Counties 3 ADM Lancs/Cheshire.

Nathan Corkhill, Mitch Gorse and Will Douglas all crossed early for Fleetwood and a Fraser Robertson conversion made the lead 17-0.

Vagas hit back with a try but the traffic turned one way after that - Corkhill got his second as did Will Douglas; Corkhill then completed his hat-trick, Robertson went in for a try and added a couple more conversions.

There was time left for replacement Keane McCann to pick up a try and for centre Chris Clapp to score the last try of the afternoon.

Vagas Ladies impress at Winnington Park

Winnington Park were the unbeaten league leaders going into the game, but Vagas Ladies put in an impressive shift away from home but lost out 43-32 despite scoring six tries.

Maylyn Campbell and Bliss Murtagh both crossed twice for Vagas with the other tries coming from Rebs O’Neill and Sophie Henry who also brought her kicking boots to add a conversion.

Nomads win friendly

Southern Nomads completed their Cheshire Bowl preparations with a 42-14 win against Douglas casuals.

Mikey Craine and Finn McGregor both scored two tries with others coming from Mark Young and Geoge Callister; Young and Callister also kicked six conversions between them - Young five and Callister one.
