Rugby: Douglas beat Burnage to bounce back

Vagabonds also successful on home turf in latest clashes

Report by Dave Christian:

After losing their two opening games, Douglas got the wheels back on the wagon with an emphatic 69-26 win against Burnage at Port-e-Chee in Regional 2 North West.

Sam McCord topped the charts for Douglas with a hat-trick of tries; Oli Corkish was just behind him with two and there were solo scores from Harry Cartwright, Wilf Kermode, Owen Carvin, Josh Campbell and Craig Martin.

Matty Wood converted eight out of ten kicks and added a penalty too.

Douglas now have a week off before their trip to bottom side Winnington Park on 17 October

Vagabonds win at home

Home soil also helped Vagabonds at Ballafletcher - their first home game in Counties 3 ADM Lancs/Cheshire this season ended in a 26-14 bonus-point win over Oldham.

'Vagas' led 14-11 at the break after a Nathan Wyllie try converted by Dan Bonwick and a penalty try cancelled out two penalties from Oldham’s Jenson Connell and a try from Corey Kelly.

Connell added a third penalty for the visitors early in the second half to tie the game, but Vagabonds battled to the very end and picked up late tries through Jack Goodwin and Matt Clowes to claim the honours.

Southern Nomads pipped at Dukinfield

Southern Nomads exited the Cheshire Plate after a narrow 27-20 defeat at Dukinfield.

Tries from Ewan Chapman and Tom Collister gave Nomads an early lead and by half time they were 10-7 in front after Dukinfield pulled one back.

Dukinfield took the lead just after the interval but a Sam Kennaugh try converted by Ethan Watt put Nomads back in front.

In true cup tie style though, Dukinfield went in again and the converted try left them 19-17 ahead.

Ethan Watt then kicked a penalty to retake the lead for Nomads before Dukinfield claimed the game with a try and a penalty in the closing stages.
