Rugby: Douglas beaten at Bowdon

Vagabonds tough run goes on with Burnley defeat

Report by Dave Christian:

On paper this was a Bowdon win in Regional 2 North West and that’s exactly how it turned out with Bowdon beating Douglas 67-15 in what was a game of two very contrasting halves.

Douglas struggled to get the travel out of their system in the first 40 and turned around 50-3 behind with just a single Nathan Robson penalty to show for their effort.

A spell under the half-time hairdryer paid dividends though and the second half was a different story - Blake Everson pulled one back for Douglas and Harry Cartwright added a second with Robson converting but it wasn’t enough to pull back the big half-time deficit.

Burnley claim the spoils at Ballafletcher

Vagabonds didn’t fare much better in Counties 3 ADM Lancs/Cheshire, they lost out 54-10 to Burnley at Ballafletcher.

Tries from Joey Bramhall and Austin Ralph plus a conversion from Jimmy Redford gave Burnley an early 12-0 lead.

Regan Williams pulled one back for Vagabonds but the respite was only brief as Redford dotted down at the other end shortly afterwards and converted his own try.

Cam Crossdale crashed in on the half-hour to extend the lead, but Regan Williams raced in for his second just before half-time and when the teams turned round Vagas trailed 26-10.

Two quick tries from half-time replacement Roshane Hemmings at the beginning of the second half pretty much ended the game, especially when Redford converted both to make the lead 40-10.

Vagas continued to battle and got close to the line a few times but it was only Burnley who troubled the scorers in the closing stages with tries from Keagan De Vries and Jimmy Redford who also added a conversion as did Joey Bramhall.
