Ramsey win final home game of their season against Congleton
Report by Dave Christian:
Douglas’ promotion hopes were finally dashed at Vale of Lune where they were edged out 23-18 in the Regional 2 North West play-offs.
Vale led 14-6 at half time in a tight affair with Nathan Robson keeping Douglas in the hunt with two penalties.
In the second half Liam Kirkpatrick went over twice for Douglas with Robson converting one but despite outscoring Vale 12-9 in the second half, Douglas’ efforts fell agonisingly short.
Ramsey round off home games with a win
Ramsey finished their home games with a stylish 45-12 win against Congleton at the Mooragh.
Their star was unquestionably Brandon Atchison who ran in four tries.
Jake Richmond's opener, converted by Dan Kelly gave them an early lead; Tom Aitchison immediately replied for Congleton with Kaine Reed's conversion levelling the score.
Ramsey then ran away with the first half - skipper, Josh Corteen crossed, he was swiftly followed by Dan Kelly and a brace from Brandon Atchison.
Kelly's conversions gave Ramsey a 31-7 half time lead.
Despite Ramsey losing Will Millsopp to an early yellow card, the second half remained scoreless until the final ten minutes.
Atchison bagged his hat-trick try, then Greg Wood went in at the other end for Congleton to give them a slight hope of a try bonus point.
As they tried to pour forward, however, Atchison picked off a late interception to give the scoreboard a glossy look which didn't reflect the toughness of the game.
Vagabonds Ladies miss out on promotion chance
While it was very much an outside chance, Vagabonds' promotion hopes were ended today with a 27-33 home defeat by Didsbury Toc H in Women's NC2 North (South).
'Vagas’' flyer Freya Crowe celebrated her fine season with a hat-trick of tries and there were also tries from Greeba Taisia and Maisie Murray, skipper, Sammie Macdonald added one conversion.
Vagabonds have just one game remaining which is away at unbeaten league leaders, Sale next Saturday and will be a daunting trip.
