Report by Dave Christian:

Douglas climb the table

Douglas beat Vale of Lune 31-8 at Port-e-Chee to secure second place in the Regional 2 North West standings. Vale dropped down to fourth following the defeat and when North Ribblesdale lost away at Winnington Park, Douglas slid into second and they have a game in hand too.

It was a tight first half at Port-e-Chee and when the teams turned around Douglas were just 7-3 ahead. They hit the accelerator after the break though and claimed a bonus point win.

Vagabonds draw but Ramsey lose

In Counties 3 ADM Lancs/Cheshire there were contrasting fortunes as Vagabonds and Ramsey both travelled away looking for that elusive first win.

Vagas came closes with a 19-19 draw away at Hoylake with all the action happening in the second half after a very rare scoreless first. Skipper Dan Bonwick led the way for Vagas with two tries. Cam Findlay bagged a third and added two conversions.

For Ramsey there was a little less to smile about as they lost 52-0 away at Fleetwood after trailing 26-0 at half time. They now have a week off ahead of a visit to the Mooragh by third place Burnley.

Vagas Ladies just lose out in thriller at Ballafletcher

When Winnington Park raced into a 22-0 lead, the writing appeared to be on the wall for Vagas however a second half fightback saw them just lose out 29-34. The visitors full back Charlie Hignett was the star of the show, with a hat trick of tries.

The opening blast from Park came via Hignett with two tries plus scores from Thea Breau, and Jen Williams with all rounder Hignett adding a conversion too. Vagas hit back through Freya Crowe just before half time leaving the Park lead 5-22 at the break.

In the second half Ros McNair pulled one back for Vagas. That was quickly cancelled out when Hignett completed her hat trick and converted again.

Vagas quickly rallied though. Crowe and McNair both picked up their second scores of the game and with Sammie Macdonald converting both, Vagas were in striking distance at 24-29.

Sadly, Jess Lewis dived in at the other end to stretch the lead to 24-34 and while Maylyn Campbell did pull one back for Vagas, they were unable to add to her score.

Douglas Celts extend lead in Hartford Homes Manx Shield

The Celts beat Western Vikings 42-12 at Port-e-Chee to stretch their lead in the Manx Shield to nine points ahead of Southern Nomads.

Nomads win friendly

Nomads were in action in a friendly against Vale of Lune 3rd XV and won 47-31. Mikey Craine and Finn McGregor both ran in two tries with the others coming from George Callister, Harry Brereton and Dick Seed. Youngster Zac Hand converted six.
