Southern Nomads win Manx Plate with commanding victory
Report by Dave Christian:
Douglas claimed the Ravenscroft Manx Cup with a 23-14 win in the final against Ramsey with wing Sam McCord picking up two tries in a hard fought match at Port-e-Chee.
McCord finished off a Kyle Martin break to put Douglas ahead in the sixth minute with Luke Hyland converting. Brandon Atchison converted his own try to level the scores but two penalties late in the first half from Jack Shimmin and Luke Hyland saw the teams turn around with Douglas 13-7 in front.
McCord bagged his second just after the break to extend the Douglas lead and when Douglas captain Rob Todd went over Douglas were 23-7 in front. A yellow card for Luke Hyland allowed Ramsey back into the game and with just under five to play Dan Richmond sneaked in for Ramsey. Brandon Atchison converted but Ramsey couldn’t add to their tally in the time remaining.
Southern Nomads take Manx Plate
The Ravenscroft Manx Plate headed South after Nomads beat Vagabonds 33-10 in the final. Orry Watterson and Tony Quinn both crossed for Nomads in the first half with Mark Young converting one. Connor Gauci struck back for Vagas and left Nomads 12-5 in front at half time.
Quinn picked up his second ten minutes into the second half and from the restart Nomads Captain George Callister went in again. Mark Young converted both and Nomads were suddenly 26-5 in front. With ten to go Harry Brereton removed any doubts when he went in for Nomads’ fifth which Young converted. Phil Bridson pulled one back for Vagas in the closing stages but it wasn’t enough to deny Nomads the win.
