Favourites battle past determined Vagabonds
Report by Dave Christian:
Douglas beat Vagabonds 74-19 at Ballafletcher to retain their Manx Cup title.
They led 43-7 at half time but didn’t have it all their own way with 'Vagas' claiming an early lead before succumbing to the pressure.
Kyle Martin put Douglas ahead early on but a Matty Jones try converted by Dan Bonwick gave Vagabonds a 10-7 lead after ten minutes.
Douglas then turned on the taps and tries from James Ross, Mark Oldfield and skipper Blake Snell saw them leading 24-7 by the half hour.
Nathan Robson, Kyle Martin and Harry Hewson all added tries in the final ten minutes of the half to build an unassailable lead by the break.
Oldfield bagged a second after the restart and there were also second half tries from Brendan Kelly and Rich Bell (2).
Matty Jones touched down for his second at the other end and Cam Findlay also score for Vagas to give the scoreboard an air of respectability.
