Rugby: Honours even in first 2024 Manx Cup clash

Elsewhere Nomads overcome Vikings in Manx Shield

Report by Dave Christian:

Games between Ramsey and Vagabonds never fail to disappoint and this one didn’t either, apart from the 10-10 final scoreline which pleased neither side.

Ramsey raced in to an early 10-0 lead with two tries from their flying wing Danny Howard, Vagabonds then firmly applied the brakes and a penalty from Cam Findlay with the final kick of the first half saw the teams turn around with Ramsey 10-3 in front.

Vagas coach Franzy Germishuys worked his magic in the half time break and Vagas started the second half with more possession and more territory.

This finally took its toll, after twenty minutes when prop Mitch Wells crashed over from close range to score - Findlay added the conversion to tie the game.

Ramsey had two late penalties to try and snatch the game, but missed both.

Nomads win in Manx Shield

Southern Nomads beat Western Vikings 66-33 at Ballakilley Park, but a try bonus point for Vikings keep them just ahead of Nomads in second place in the standings albeit by just a single point.

Nomads Finns scored eight tries between them, Finn Corrin bagged five and Finn McGregor three.

Other scores came from Norman Winterbach and almost inevitably, Orry Watterson - Harry Goodwin and Harvey Callister were among the Viking scorers.
