Club citing high costs in reason for withdrawal for 2026/27
Ramsey Rugby Club will not enter the English Clubs Championship for the 2026/27 season.
The northern side says the decision is primarily down to costs which, it says, based on the previous campaign, would amount to 'just over £100,000.'
As a result, the team will focus on the Manx Cup, Manx Shield and Cheshire competitions as well as 'the possibility of arranging additional friendly fixtures to help provide a full and competitive programme of rugby throughout the year.'
Furthermore, the club adds it continues to pursue more funding opportunities and remains hopeful of returning to the English Club Championship system in 2027/28.
During 2025/26, Ramsey made its return to the championships for the first time in five years where they competing in Counties 3 ADM Lancashire/Cheshire alongside fellow Island side, Vagabonds.
By the conclusion of the season, Ramsey went on to finish 13th in the standings on ten points with one win, one draw and 11 defeats from 13 games.
