Douglas win away and go third

It was a perfect day for Douglas in North One West.

They beat Firwood Waterloo 29-22 away from home and claimed a try bonus point in the process.

Close rivals Stockport lost at home to the league’s dark horses Warrington which means Douglas gain a place.

Leaders Carlisle travel to Warrington next Saturday while Douglas are at home against bottom side De La Salle which will give them a great opportunity to close in on the top spot.

Sam Mete made it four tries in seven days when he ran in a brace for Douglas and there were other tries from Max Singer and Mike Dunnett.

Vagabonds Ladies struggle against league leaders

Forced changes to a settled line up, coupled with an away trip to the unbeaten league leaders is a heady cocktail and Vagas were always likely to struggle as they headed to Crewe & Nantwich.

They lost 74-7 after trailing 45-0 at half time. Fran Hunt went over for Vagas only try with skipper Lauren Ellison adding the conversion.

Vagas now have a week off before the visit of Preston Grasshoppers to Ballafletcher on 2 February.

Douglas Celts beat Vagabonds in Shimmin Wilson Manx Cup

Douglas Celts beat Vagabonds 26-7 at Port-e-Chee to underline the strength in depth at Port-e-Chee.

Mark McGee ran in two for the Celts with other tries coming from Conor McCaughan and Rob Todd.

Shaun Wyllie kicked three conversions. Paul Howard ran in Vagas’ try with Cam Findlay adding the conversion.

In the other Manx Cup game Ramsey beat Southern Nomads 27-0 at King Williams College.

Ben Harding’s first half try and a conversion from Scott Kneale was all that separated the teams after forty minutes.

In the second half though Ramsey pushed clear with tries from Jarred Callister, Dan Bonwick and Mark Oldfield a conversion from Scott Kneale and a penalty from Fintan Cummins.

Ramsey B win in Shimmin Wilson Manx Plate

Ramsey’s second team picked up their third win of the season with 43-17 win against Castletown in the Manx Plate.

Ramsey led 26-12 at half time with tries from Nico Gantous, Neil Quayle, Neil Long and Spud Watterson with Gantous converting three.

Town had kept in touch with tries from Mike Condra and Jim Emmett and a Kunal Patel conversion.

Veteran Simon Mason extended the Ramsey lead before Marco Santos pegged it back again for Town and as the clock ticked on Jared May and Aneurin Pritchard both ran in tries for Ramsey to close out the game.

In the other Manx Plate game, Western Vikings beat Vagabonds B 25-7 at Ballafletcher.

Liam Sweeney ran in two for Vikings and there were also tries from Jack Goodwin and Connal McCarthy with Ryan Burke kicking a penalty and a conversion.
