Rugby round-up: Ramsey extend lead at the top

Vagas struggle in tough conditions

Douglas close the gap

Douglas beat De La Salle 20-0 at a muddy Port-e-Chee and with fellow promotion hopefuls Blackburn losing away at Burnage, Douglas moved to within a point of a promotion playoff berth. Douglas led 13-0 at half time after two tries from paceman Sam Mete and a penalty from Will Cain. In the second half, a try from prop Todd McDowell, converted by Will Cain, eased them away from De La Salle; however they were unable to get the elusive fourth try to earn a bonus point.

Vagabonds struggle in the wet

Vagabonds struggled in atrocious conditions at Ballafletcher losing out 5-0 to Old Bedians in a game which was blighted by heavy rain. The match was scoreless at half time and Vagas had an early penalty chance in the second half but Johnny Beckley’s effort drifted wide in the wind. Bedians then snatched the points with the only try of the game.

Ramsey extend lead

Ramsey beat Liverpool University 22-3 away from home and their lead at the top of Lancs/Cheshire 3 stretched to eleven points after chasers Ellesmere Port lost at Mossley Hill. A try from John F Watling plus a penalty and conversion from Fintan Cummins saw Ramsey lead 10-3 at half time. Ethan Benjamin and Eddie Lord both went in for second half tries with Cummins converting one. The University hit back with a late converted try but it was too little too late.

Vikings too strong for Castletown in Shimmin Wilson Manx Shield

Kunal Patel converted his own try to give Town the early lead in this game but the Vikings forwards were in no mood for defeat. Mark Bienvenu struck back and Ryan Burke levelled the score with a conversion. Alex Gibson, Andrew Colley and Conor Caley then all ran in tries for Vikings and when Colley grabbed his second just before the break, the Vikings half time lead was 33-10, with a Patel penalty added to the Town total. In the second half Liam Sweeney, Ed Knight and Ollie Creasey added to Vikings score.

Emerging Nomads win in Manx Plate

Emerging Nomads beat Ramsey B 27-8 in the Manx Plate to open their account. Nomads led 10-5 at half time with tries from Ethan McNaught and Nick Clague. Joe Flanagan bagged one for Ramsey to keep his side in touch. In the second half Jack Caine added a penalty for Ramsey but tries from Orry Watterson, Jake Hardinge and Steve Downe plus a conversion from Max Lewthwaite sealed the deal for Nomads.
