Rugby: Sandbach too strong for Douglas

Vagabonds losing streak continues

Report by Dave Christian

After a big home win Douglas took to the road this week in Regional 2 North West but came undone at Sandbach who look to be promotion contenders.

Gihard Visagie picked up his third try in two games for Douglas, Sam McCord also crossed and they earned a penalty try to boot. Nathan Robson kicked two conversions on his debut, however there was no bonus point for Douglas who face Altrincham Kersal at Port-Chee next Saturday.

Sluggish start punishes Vagabonds

Vagas leaked three tries in the opening ten minutes against De La Salle at Ballafletcher and never really recovered, eventually losing 57-21.

Hasan Sadrazam, James Woodward and Ben Riley all crossed early for De La Salle with Jay Boyd converting two for a 19-0 lead. Reece McCallister pulled one back for Vagas and Cam Findlay converted to keep them in touch. Sean Watson and Paul Berry both crossed for the visitors before half time to extend the lead to 31-7 at the break.

Full back Josh Stafford picked one up after the interval and when Ben Riley and Jonathan Woodward went in for their second De La Salle were pretty much home and dry. Vagas did pick up some late scores from Reece McCallister and Harvey Callister with Dan Bonwick and Cam Findlay converting but it just wasn’t enough.

Jules rules for Vagas Ladies

Vagas Ladies beat Eccles 22-7 to record their first win of the season in Womens NC2 North (South).

Eccles took an early lead courtesy of a Rosie Hoyle try which was converted by Lucy Mills. Jules Harrison, freshly back from a maternity break, picked up her first of the game to reduce the deficit and when Becky Dunne went over Vagas were 10-7 ahead, a lead which they held till half time.

In the second half Vagas were reduced to thirteen after two yellow cards but clung on to keep their lead. Maylynn Campbell then raced in from forty metres to extend the lead before Harrison administered the coup de grace, which Sammie Macdonald converted.

Ramsey win in Manx Shield Clash

Ramsey beat Western Vikings 54-5 at the Mooragh Park to stay in pole position in the Manx Shield. Centre Jake Richmond ran in a hat trick and his partner Conor Goodall picked up two. There were also tries from Ben Hardman, Will Millsopp and Danny Howard. Brandon Atchison converted seven.
