Rugby: Vagabonds beat Blackpool to bounce back

Vagas ladies suffer heavy defeat at Liverpool St Helens

Report by Dave Christian:

After defeat last week Vagas returned to winning ways in Counties 4 ADM Lancs/Cheshire with a 17-8 defeat of a gritty Blackpool.

Vagas took the lead early in the first half when Archie Benson crashed over after a forward drive with Cam Findlay converting.

The visitors hit back via full back Darren Howe who added a try and a penalty to leave his side 8-7 ahead at the break.

Ross Pulman swooped on a loose ball right after the break to put Vagas ahead with Findlay again converting - as the weather worsened play became scrappy but with ten to play Findlay added a penalty to push Vagas clear.

Vagabonds Ladies struggle at league leaders

A trip to the unbeaten league leaders Liverpool St Helens was always going to be difficult for Vagabonds in Womens NC1 North West, and it was made doubly difficult when due to circumstances beyond their control they had to travel with just 12 players.

The champions-elect made light work of the game winning 98-0 - to their credit Vagas stuck to their guns even after going down to eleven after losing Bliss Murtagh to injury.

Ramsey beat Western Vikings

The late scheduling of the rugby feast at Ramsey meant Southern Nomads were unable to take part and this left just the scheduled fixture between Ramsey and Western Vikings which Ramsey won 41-5.

Brandon Atchison notched yet another hat trick for Ramsey, Nathan Robson weighed in with two and there were also tries from Jack Roberts and Jake Richmond.

Atchison also kicked three conversions for a 21 point personal haul.
