Saints win at champs

St Mary’s have issued an emphatic indication of their title credentials.

They won 2-1 at reigning champions St George’s on Saturday – their first league victory at the Geordies for more than six years.

And not only did the result make their Sure Mobile Premier League title rivals sit up and take notice, it left the Geordies up against it in the race for the title – and Parkinson Railway Cup qualification - after a third league defeat.

Liam Cowin gave the Saints a first half lead direct from a corner before Steven Priestnal doubled the advantage against his former club.

Chris Bass junior pulled one back for the champions but St Mary’s took the points.

Peel remain on top and cruised to a 5-0 victory over Ramsey at Douglas Road, courtesy of goals from Marc Kelly (two), Kerron Christian (two) and Daniel Lace.

They remain unbeaten since their opening day defeat.

Rushen also maintained their aspirations, coming from behind to win 3-1 at Michael.

The westerners led before Adam Cregeen levelled matters.

Second half goals from Josh Kelly and Tom Craine ensured the points went south.

Old Boys overcame basement battlers Union Mills 3-0, thanks to a Callum Stewart brace and a Dean France goal at Garey Mooar.

There was an exciting contest at Mullen-e-Cloie where St John's and Corinthians shared four goals.

Mark Wolfenden hit a double for the newly promoted hosts but they had to settle for a point with Nigel Moody and John Coppell netting for the visitors.

Gymns edged a seven goal thriller at home to Castletown.

Mark Connor, Ciaran McNulty, Barry Harding and Nick Bowden were all on the scoresheet for the Tromode club.

Mike Edge (two) and Alex Crawley kept Town in the hunt but Mark Teare’s battlers narrowly missed out on a point.
