It’s been confirmed this evening TT rider Simon Andrews has died from injuries he suffered at the North West 200 road race meeting in Northern Ireland.
The 29-year-old rider from Evesham in Worcestershire came off his bike during the Superstock race on Saturday and was taken by helicopter to hospital in Belfast in a critical condition.
His death has been confirmed in a statement by race organisers.
It says he passed away in the intensive care unit of Belfast Royal Victoria Hospital with his parents, girlfriend and best friend by his side.
North West 200 Event Director Mervyn Whyte says “This is a very sad day and I want to offer my condolences to Simon’s family and friends and to his race team.
“Simon was a superb rider and a great character in the paddock.
"He was a huge asset to our race.
"It was an absolute pleasure to work with him and he was always very helpful when we asked for his assistance.
"He will be sadly missed by everyone at the North West 200.”
