Prem League: Hill first player confirmed in play-offs

Finch Hill Rockets may be timing their run perfectly as they joined the Hurricanes heading the Macs Builders Merchants snooker league where co-leaders from the previous week St Olaves A had a bye.
 
Cue Zone Reprobates 3-2 The Hurricanes  
 
Reprobates defied their lowly league position and pulled off another surprise win as the Hurricanes missed out on a chance to go clear at the top. Rob Callister was in decent form with a 26 break taking the first against Paul Smith 75-40 with snookers required with two reds remaining. Frame two ended Dollin Mercer 60-52 Stuart Littlewood, Mercer fighting back from 40 behind, drawing level by the colours and winning on the pink. Brendan Clague 76-87 Jamie Wilson, kept the Hurricanes in it, Wilson with a 25 break and finishing strongly. Nick Stephens had his first match of the season and won it for the home team playing well and good long potting to defeat a struggling Chris Dagnall 94-41. Rhys Moore 63-76 Steve Munk, Munky salvaging another point for the Hurricanes with a hard fought win on pink.
 
Finch Hill Rockets 4-1 Jacksons
 
Jacksons couldn't reproduce last week’s shock result but this one could easily have been the other way round as the Rockets took three frames on the black. Marek Kenny 71-16 Dave Cavanagh, the ever improving Kenny dominated the game with several teen breaks and a 24, Cavanagh conceding with 35 remaining such was Kenny’s lead. Ron Grogan 61-48 Mike Reddington, was a win for the legendary 92 year old taking the first of three consecutive black ballers. Graham Ashton 54-51 Lee Gale, had lots of high quality safety at the black end, pushing all the reds open. Gale was in first and potting well but unfortunately went in off. A teen break from Ashton closed the gap. Gale looked like clearing on the colours but missed the blue, which Ashton took with a pressure pink to leave it all on the last ball. Gale left a very thin cut black to middle which Ashton was just able to snick in. Doug Kinrade 49-44 Kam Virk was close throughout, Kinrade potting good single reds and Virk having difficulty with the table speed. Once again going to the black, Virk missed a double to leave it six inches from the middle, an easy pot for Kinrade as the white was directly behind it. However he hit far jaw and the black seemed to hang forever before dropping in and huge sighs all round. A fluked final brown in the middle from Tony Dhadwal in the last led to an impressive 22 clearance and at least one point for an unlucky Jacksons, frame ending John Spellman 32-69 Dhadwal.
 
Cue Zone Mob 3-2 St Olaves Musicians 
 
The Mob go fourth and once again the star performer was Dave Addinall with the week’s highest break, a 50 plus a 24 and 20. Frame scores, Steve Finnegan 76-40 Peter Collister, Dave Addinall 120-87 Mike Doherty, Steve Oates 32-52 Dave Hanlon, Peter Kirkham (22 break) 94-66 Matthew Dodd and Lee Hunt 68-81 John Kennish.
 
Peel Legion 4-1 Malew 
 
11th v 6th but with Peel winning 8 of their last 9 meetings perhaps not a surprise result though it was a pretty turgid night of snooker. Don Humphries 68-32 Mark Quinn, Quinn was a bit unlucky with a couple of rolls towards the end as Humphries with an earlier nice teen effort took a nice long frame ball green. John Kelly 60-33 Tony Pring was Pring’s first game of season and he did look a bit rusty missing the pack on the break! Kelly wasn't that great either but edged away and snookers were required by the colours. Jim Caley 62-53 David Quayle, looked to be going comfortably Caley’s way, but a green that cannoned in when he potted a pink turned the frame around and Quayle crept back with a few nice pots. At the end Quayle followed in a tricky straight frame ball pink and Caley fell over the line. Mike Crook 71-34 James Goodwin, Crook with the occasional good pot was too strong for an out of sorts Goodwin. Finally, Hall and Oates entertained the hard-core remaining, but not the American pop act just Geoff and Alec. Hall produced a great escape from a snooker on the final red and even potted it. He was 17 ahead with 18 on but unluckily went in off the blue and Oates with an easy blue and pink then cut back a doubled black to middle for a consolation point.
 
Newbys DSB 2-3 Port St Mary Legion
 
PSM with just one away win last season now have five this time around after this mid table match up. Frame scores, Johnny Myers 31-71 Phil Joynes (22 break), Ste MacDonald 60-38 Shaun Roberts, Adam Dooley 72-34 Dave Pickersgill, Zain Abideen 39-52 Marc Morley and Simon Gardner 34-58 Terry Boyle.
 
DSB Wannabes 0-5 Cue Zone Blinders
 
The Blinders with their first ever 5-0 win consigned Wannabes to their fourth whitewash defeat of the season. Ivan McMaw’s 25 break in the finale putting the icing on the cake. Frame scores, Harry Minor 46-69 Scott Campion, Stevie Cowin 63-76 Sam Palmer, Fred Corris 48-66 Josh Rigg, James Teare 56-84 Brandon Forrester and Dave Corris 45-58 Ivan McMaw.
 
The Hurricanes and Rockets lead the way both on 60 points with four matches to play, St Olaves A are two points back with five to play. The individual league reads Darrell Thacker on 17 wins with Stu Litlewood on 16 and Marek Kenny 15. Dave Addinall goes back top of the high breaks league on 48.5 points from John Kennish on 47. Next week sees two top of the table clashes, St Olaves A v Finch Hill Rockets and The Hurricanes v Cue Zone Mob. The Hurricanes cause may not be helped as they will be forfeiting home advantage and play out of The Cue Zone until further notice whilst renovations are undertaken at their home venue. After week seven’s matches in the Castle Cabs Isle of Man Premier Snooker League held at The Cue Zone, Darryl Hill became the first player confirmed in a play-off position with 4 wins from 4 matches. He and John Kennish produced an excellent match with Hill coming from 2-1 down to win 4-2. A 62 clearance from Hill in the first frame took it 114-0, and he had further breaks of 47, 38 and 30. Kennish’s top run was a 50 break. Frame scores, Hill first, 114-0, 60-61, 35-60, 59-9, 66-22 and 66-29.
 
In the other match of the afternoon Sean Corkish picked up his third draw in the league against Peter Crellin which for him was his first. Crellin took the high break of the match with a 29. Frame scores, Corkish first, 36-63, 12-50, 54-43, 56-10, 40-54 and 67-24. There are just three playing weeks of the league phase remaining now and mathematically everyone in positions 2-7 can still make the top four to qualify for the play-offs. Darryl Hill on 12 points has qualified and John Kennish is on 7, Sean Corkish and Tom Miller both with 6 and currently hold the other places. Peter Crellin and Peter Kirkham are on 4 points. Corkish only has one more match to play whilst the other leading contenders have two.
