One victory from record-breaking title
St George’s are one victory away from a seventh successive Canada Life Premier League title.
A 3-2 victory over battling Rushen on Saturday ensured they remain 15 points clear at the summit and, if they see off Corinthians next weekend, the Geordies will beat a record of six straight Manx league championships – set by Peel from 1971-77.
Chris Bass junior grabbed the winner in the closing stages with his second goal.
He’d earlier scored a penalty and skipper Frank Jones was also on target.
Jamie Johnstone and Mike Williams replied for Rushen who slipped to fourth.
St Mary’s are still in second after a 3-1 win at lowly Union Mills.
All the damage was done in the first half with Steven Priestnal, Steven Glover and Sam Gelling finding the net.
Tony McKay pulled one back after the break but the Millers remain in deep trouble.
Corinthians are up to third after winning 14-1 at already relegated Ayre United.
The star of the show was Sean Doyle who scored half for his side with a seven goal haul!
There was also a hat-trick for Steve Whitley, a Josh Ridings double and goals from Rauri Mooney and Callum Campbell.
Dean Tate notched the consolation for 10-man Ayre.
Colby battled hard at home to St John’s but went down to a 2-0 defeat, after a goal in each half from Harry Rothwell and Eric Kelly.
Martin Cowan hit a hat-trick as Douglas Athletic ran out 5-1 home winners over Ramsey.
Mikey Callister and Lee Ford netted the others.
Chris Duggan replied for Ramsey who finished the match with 10 men.
