Class to now adopt full Sportbike regulations

Supertwin machines will no longer be eligible at the Isle of Man TT Races.

The news comes as organisers of the event confirm that the Sportbike TT class will now shift to full Sportbike regulations going forward.

It marks the end of what officials say has been a transitional process for the class which started back in 2024.

They add the decision to make this move has been decided by 'several key factors critical to the long-term health and growth of both the category and the TT as a whole.'

Whilst recognising that the relatively open nature of Supertwin rules allowed for significant freedom to build machines as teams saw fit, the Isle of Man TT Races believes this drove up costs, leading to limited-run machinery or costly development to create a winning formula.

Organisers state this is in contrast to Sportbike technology which, they say, 'operates within significantly tighter regulations that limit build and running costs for teams and privateers' and 'utilises a proven Balance of Performance (BoP) system to deliver close, competitive racing across a diverse field.'

From 2027, the technical regulations and BoP for the Sportbike TT will mirror those already in place in the National Sportbike Championship.

Minor TT-specific modifications will be permitted including to fairings and the frontal areas of machines.
