He's represented IoM at Commonwealth Games and Island Games
Manx swimmer, Alex Bregazzi, has announced his retirement from the sport.
The Manxman has confirmed he'll be stepping away to focus on his continuing PhD studies at Loughborough University.
Among his achievements in swimming, Alex made his Commonwealth Games debut in Glasgow in 2014, aged just fifteen.
Whilst he missed out on the 2018 games on the Gold Coast due to illness, the following year he went on to win nine medals - including seven gold medals - at the Island Games in Gibraltar.
Back in July and August of this year, Alex was once again part of the Isle of Man's swimming squad at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
He was a part of the men's 4x100m freestyle relay team which twice broke the Manx record in the class during the games as well as the mixed relay team which also set a new Island record.
Speaking to Manx Radio, Alex explains why he feels now is the right time to move away from swimming:
