Former Island player loses out in first round of men's singles
Isle of Man tennis star Billy Harris has been knockout in the first round of the men's singles at this year's Miami Open.
The former Castletown and Albany competitor was beaten in three sets by the USA's Elliot Spizzirri (6-7, 6-3, 2-6) in the early hours of this morning at the Hard Rock Stadium Complex.
30-year-old Harris had registered two victories beforehand in the qualifying rounds against Sweden's Mikael Ymer (6-7, 7-6, 6-3) and Hugo Gaston of France (7-5, 6-2).
Elsewhere this month, Harris was also in action on the ATP Tour in the USA at Indian Wells on 4 March where he was beaten by Michael Mmoh in straight sets (6-3, 6-2).
Meanwhile, Harris - currently 107th in the ATP world rankings - had started the month positively by reaching the semi-finals at Bengaluru, India on the ATP Challenger tour.
