Third generation of Founds family set for TT debut

Rhys Gibbons will join Alan Founds for 2024 races

The third generation of the Founds family will make its debut at the 2024 Isle of Man TT Races.

Rhys Gibbons is set to make his maiden appearance in the sidecar class alongside his uncle, Alan Founds for both Sidecar TT races this year.

Founds experienced a challenging year on the Snaefell Mountain Course in 2023 in which he nearly withdrew after his original passenger was excluded during the meeting.

A new teammate in the form of Colin Smyth then stepped in to help the driver with both going on to record tenth and 11th-place finishes in the first and second sidecar contests respectively.

Speaking about being joined by 20-year-old Gibbons, Founds says his nephew has been 'chomping at the bit to do the TT' and 'the time's right for that to now happen'.

He adds having the latest generation of the family compete at the event is something they're 'extremely proud of' and that as Gibbons is a newcomer there's 'no pressure at all and the aim will be to settle into everything during qualifying and build things up as the fortnight progresses.'

The 2024 Isle of Man TT Races are scheduled to take place from 27 May to 8 June.
