Island competitor wins PRO Middle Distance event in Spain

Isle of Man triathlete, Will Draper claimed has claimed another scalp in the sport, this time by winning at the 2026 Challenge Salou Costa-Daurada in Spain.

The Island competitor claimed top spot in the PRO Middle Distance race on Sunday, 10 May with a time of three hours, 36 minutes and 11 seconds.

That performance saw him finish over 90 seconds clear of his nearest challenger, Jack Hutchens in second (three hours, 37 minutes and 47 seconds) whilst Triathlon Toulouse competitor, Arthur Berland finished third (three hours, 38 minutes and 23 seconds) to round out the podium.

This success for Draper follows on from an impressive 13th-placed finish at what was his season opener at Ironman 70.3 Valencia on 19 April.

During last weekend's meeting and competing in a field of 31 pro athletes, Draper finished the swim stage around one minute off the leading pace but an impressive showing on the bike course saw him race out front and into a two minutes, 25 seconds lead heading onto the running route.

Having initially extended his lead on the run to more than three-and-a-half minutes, Draper then found himself in a position to slow the pace to eventually cross the line with a one minute, 36 second gap to the next challenger in the field.
