An especially heavy pitch at Wigan did Vagabonds no favours as they went down 21-13, despite a strong second half showing.
Jonny Beckley kicked Vagabonds into an early 3-0 lead but Wigan hit back with three unanswered scores to leave Vagas reeling at 21-3.
A Jake Coates try just before half-time gave them a glimmer of hope and when Jonny Beckley picked up a try in the second half they were within touching distance.
It wasn’t to be though and Wigan’s first half tries were too big a mountain for Vagas to climb.
