Vagas well beaten at home
Vagabonds lost their opening match in South Lancashire/Cheshire Division Two with a 41-10 home defeat by Winnington Park.
A somewhat makeshift Vagas team went behind early on when Park wing Josh Gibbins caught a cross kick and dabbed the ball down for the opener.
Vagas hit back with an Aidan O’Shea penalty but a Josh Brown try just before half-time, converted by Jack Williams, gave the visitors a 12-3 lead at the break.
In the second half, O’Shea went over for Vagas and converted his own try to pull them to within two points but that was to be the end of their scoring as Park dominated the closing stages.
Gibbins ran in two more to complete his hat-trick and there were also tries from Dave Cross, Craig Lamb and Williams, who also added two further conversions.
